Motion Controller, Single-axis Stepper Motor

The SMC100PP is a single axis motion controller/driver for 2-phase stepper motors up to 48 VDC at 1.1A peak per phase. It is a compact and low-cost controller for most of Newport’s stages, like the UTS and ILS linear stages, URS rotation stages, and TRA actuators. Communication with the SMC100 is via the integrated RS-232-C interface, or a USB port using the adapter. The SMC100 controller requires a "straight-through" type of RS232 cable , when connecting it to a PC. A Null-Modem cable will not work. The controller is shipped with one 0.2 m long power cable and one 0.2 m long RS-485 network cable which can be used to daisy chain one controller to another.

Note: The SMC100PP does not utilize the encoder feedback for closed loop regulation. The encoder is only used to display the current position. Positioning is performed by counting steps only.
