ULTIMA® Low Wavefront Distortion Mirror Mounts

The U500-AC ULTIMA^® Large Mirror Mount uses soft-tip optic set screws to gently, but securely, hold high precision 5 inch (127 mm) diameter optics from three points on the back against the front plate of the mount. The U500-AC is compatible with optics between 11 and 31 mm thick. The U500-AC can also be used with the U500-3MM-ADPT adapter ring, making it compatible with a wide range optics between 3 and 31 mm thick. Wavefront distortion in the optic is minimized because the forces acting on the optic are axial, instead of radial and are more evenly distributed. Like all ULTIMA® mounts, thick front and rear plates and optimized, stiff springs improve the long-term stability and provide greater protection against vibrations. ULTIMA® Large Mirror Mounts minimize mount-induced wavefront distortion. The included baseplate allows for flexible mounting options including center-optic post mounting and clearance holes for 1/4-20 (M6) screws.

3-Point Axial Clamping Reduces Mounting Stress

With the axial 3-point mounting, because there are twice as many mounting points, the forces that would cause distortion are essentially cut in half, more distributed, and axially opposite to eliminate bending.

Test Results - Minimized Distortion

Interferometric testing results show the flatness of the mirrors held in these mounts, measure at 0.100 wave PV (peak to valley). Compare this to mirrors held in a mount with a nylon-tipped set screw where the flatness degrades to 0.600 to 0.800 wave PV. An unconstrained 1/10th wave mirror will typically measure 0.090 wave PV.

Many Actuators - One Mount

The ULTIMA's industry-standard clamp design allows many different types of actuators to be used to adjust the mirror position to meet the requirements for any application. Actuators can be replaced with ease by simply loosening two screws to allow the actuator to gently slide into and out of the mount. ULTIMA mounts are compatible not only with standard knob and hex-key adjustment screws, but also with micrometers and motorized actuators. Versatile Mounting Options

The included mounting base plate not only allows the Large ULTIMA^® mounts to stand on their own, but also features thru holes for 1/4-20 (M6) for secure mounting to pedestals and posts ( shown mounted with two post holders and two posts). The ULTIMA^® Large Mounts can be converted from Right-hand to Left-hand configurations simply by moving the base plate with the included 3 mm Hex Adjustment Knob. Center-post mounting is possile with or without the base plate via a 1/4-20 (M6) through hole.
