Optical Fiber Coupler, Broadband, 2 x 2, 10/90, 1310/1550 nm

The F-CPL-B22351 Broadband Coupler is operational over both the 1310 and 1550 nm windows. This 2x2 coupler has a 10/90 (10%) coupling ratio. It has bare fiber ends. Use the model number F-CPL-2x2-OPT and coupler option code when ordering non-standard fiber connectorization. The F-CPL-B22351 can be used directly with the 918D-IS-1 fiber optic detector. It can also be used with the 818 or 918D series detectors with the associated FP3-FH1 bare fiber holder and 818-FA2 bare fiber mount. See the Related Products tab for more information.

10/90 Fused Fiber Optic Couplers

10/90 fiber optic couplers are used to split off 10% of the input fiber optic light. We offer broadband, narrowband and wavelength flattened versions.

FC/UPC, FC/APC or Bare Fiber Pigtails

All standard models come with non-terminated (pigtailed) ends. FC/UPC or FC/APC fiber connectors are also available for most models.

Rugged Housing and Cabling

A semi-ruggedized housing, used on 1x2 and 2x2 couplers at 633, 780, and 850 nm, consists of a stainless steel outer housing from which 1 m long, 900 µm buffered fibers exit through molded strain relief boots. All other couplers feature a fully ruggedized black plastic housing with 1 m long, 3 mm PVC covered pigtails.

Fused Biconical Taper Construction

A fused coupler consists of two, parallel optical fibers that have been twisted, stretched and fused together so that their cores are very close to each other. This forms a coupling region with the length determining the coupling ratio from one fiber to the other. During the manufacturing process, light is launched into an input port and the output power from each output port is carefully monitored. When the desired coupling ratio is achieved, the fully automated manufacturing process is stopped. The resulting coupler is essentially one fiber with two cores that are very near to one another. This process is known as the Fused Biconical Taper (FBT) process.
